Flume Experiments Evaluating the Efficacy of a Large Wood Trap Featuring Horizontal Rods

چکیده
Large wood (LW) disasters, which often accompany sediment-related occur worldwide. To prevent and mitigate such we developed a unique LW trap featuring horizontal rods aligned with the flow. When enters trap, it is scooped up by thus separated from water sediment. We explored trapping efficacy using flume of slope 0.087. Water circulated at constant rate 1.8 L/s, was added to flow, rates were measured. focused on relative length (Lw) respect rod spacing (Sr), number units supplied, supply rate. A longer (Lw/Sr) associated higher The also high when or high. critical Lw/Sr value 1.5; below this value, not trapped. This study yields basic information needed design traps LW-related disasters.

Dynamics of Wood Transport in Streams: a Flume Experiment
The influence of woody debris on channel morphology and aquatic habitat has been recognized for many years. Unlike sediment, however, little is known about how wood moves through river systems. We examined some dynamics of wood transport in streams through a series of flume experiments and observed three distinct wood transport regimes: uncongested, congested and semi-congested. During unconges...
متن کاملEvaluating the efficacy of wood shreds for mitigating erosion.
An erosion control product made by shredding on-site woody materials was evaluated for mitigating erosion through a series of rainfall simulations. Tests were conducted on bare soil and soil with 30, 50, and 70% cover on a coarse and a fine-grained soil. Results indicated that the wood product known as wood shreds reduced runoff and soil loss from both soil types. Erosion mitigation ranged from...
متن کاملA systematic review evaluating the efficacy of autologous hematopoietic transplantation for diffuse large B cell lymphoma-type Richter syndrome
Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) can transform into fast growing lymphoma for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) called Richter's syndrome (RS), which is commonly related to an existence of large B-cells with equal or larger size than macrophage nuclei or more than twice those of normal lymphocyte. We conducted a systematic review of the existing literature to assess the clinic...
متن کاملSeiching in a Large Wave Flume
INTRODUCTION The Cross-shore Transport Experiment (CROSSTEX) is a multi-investigator, multi-university, scientific research project centered around a coordinated series of near-prototype scale experiments that were conducted at Oregon State University's O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory (HWRL) during the summer of 2005 (Maddux et al, 2006). The experiments took place in the 104m long, 3.7m...
متن کاملComputer Vision for Wave Flume Experiments
During the past several decades, a number of attempts have been made to contain oil slicks (or any surface contaminants) in the open sea by means of a floating barrier. Many of those attempts were not very successful especially in the presence of waves and currents. The relative capabilities of these booms have not been properly quantified for lack of standard analysis or testing procedure (Hud...
